Frequently Asked Questions

Extra large wood plank tiles create fewer grout lines across a floor, which gives a cleaner, more seamless appearance that closely resembles the look of real timber boards. In larger rooms or open-plan spaces in particular, fewer joints create a greater sense of space and continuity that smaller tiles simply cannot achieve.

Extra large format tiles do require a greater degree of care during installation because the subfloor must be perfectly level and adequately prepared to prevent lippage (where tile edges sit at slightly different heights) or cracking under load. We strongly recommend using an experienced professional tiler for this type of project, as improper preparation is the most common cause of issues with large format tiles.

Contrary to what many people assume, extra large tiles can actually make a smaller room feel more spacious, because the reduced number of grout lines removes visual clutter from the floor plane. Choosing a lighter wood-effect shade and laying the planks lengthways along the longest wall of the room will further enhance this effect.

Porcelain wood plank tiles are considerably harder and more scratch-resistant than real timber, making them a practical choice for high-traffic areas such as hallways, kitchens, and living rooms. Unlike genuine wood, they will not dent under heavy furniture, fade in sunlight, or require periodic sanding and refinishing to maintain their appearance.

As a general rule, we recommend ordering at least 10% extra on top of your calculated floor area to cover cuts, breakages, and any future repairs, and this allowance is especially important with large format tiles where a single cut piece can represent a significant proportion of the tile. If your room has an irregular shape or many doorways and obstacles, consider increasing this to 15% to be safe.
