What sizes do hexagon tiles typically come in, and which works best for smaller rooms?

Hexagon tiles are available in a wide range of sizes, from small 48mm mosaics through to large 200mm or even 300mm formats. For smaller rooms such as cloakrooms or en-suites, smaller hexagons tend to work well as they can make the floor appear busier and more characterful without overwhelming the space. Larger formats suit open-plan areas or feature walls where you want the shape itself to make a bold, graphic statement.

Are hexagon tiles suitable for both floors and walls?

Yes, porcelain hexagon tiles are well suited to both floor and wall applications, provided the tile you choose carries the appropriate rating for your intended use. Always check that a floor tile has an adequate slip-resistance rating, particularly in wet areas like bathrooms. On walls, hexagons create striking feature panels or full-room coverings that work equally well in contemporary and traditional settings.

How do I calculate how many hexagon tiles I need to order?

Because of their geometric shape, hexagon tiles can produce more offcuts than square or rectangular formats, especially around edges and corners. We recommend adding at least 10% to your total measured area to account for cuts and wastage, and a little more if your room has lots of angles or alcoves. Use the measurements of the area in square metres and check the coverage information on each product listing to work out the number of boxes required.

What grout colour works best with hexagon floor tiles?

The grout colour you choose will dramatically influence the finished look of hexagon tiles, since the geometric pattern is defined by the grout lines. A contrasting grout, such as charcoal with white tiles, highlights each individual hexagon and creates a bold, graphic effect that is very on-trend. A tone-on-tone approach with matching grout gives a softer, more refined look that lets the tile colour and texture take centre stage.

Can I mix different hexagon tile colours to create a pattern?

Absolutely – mixing hexagon tile colours is one of the most popular ways to use this format, and it is a great way to add personality and unique character to a floor or feature wall. A simple two-tone blend, such as white and pale grey, gives a subtle geometric effect, while bolder multi-colour combinations can create a truly eye-catching statement. We recommend laying out your chosen tiles dry before installation to plan the distribution of colours to your liking.
