Patterned tiles are incredibly versatile and work well in almost any room in the home. They are particularly popular in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, and living spaces, where they can be used to create a striking feature wall or a bold statement floor. Even a small area of patterned tiling, such as a kitchen splashback or a bathroom niche, can add real character to a room.
Both ceramic and porcelain options are available in our patterned tiles range, and the right choice depends on where you plan to use them. Porcelain patterned tiles are denser and more water-resistant, making them ideal for floors and wet areas such as bathrooms. Ceramic patterned tiles are slightly lighter and easier to cut, which can make them a great choice for feature walls or lower-traffic areas.
To calculate how many tiles you need, measure the length and width of your surface in metres and multiply them together to get the total square meterage. We recommend adding at least 10% extra to your order to account for cuts, wastage, and any future repairs – this is especially important with patterned tiles, as matching a pattern mid-project can be tricky if you run short. If you are unsure, our team at Stoke Tiles is happy to help you work out the right quantity.
Not necessarily – it is all about choosing the right pattern and scale for your space. Smaller, repeating geometric patterns can actually draw the eye and add depth to a compact room, while very large bold motifs tend to work better in more spacious areas. Using patterned tiles on just one feature wall rather than throughout the entire room is a great way to add visual interest without overwhelming a smaller space.
Patterned tiles are generally straightforward to maintain, particularly those with a glazed surface, which resists staining and is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth and a mild household cleaner. The key is to ensure the tiles are properly sealed at the grouting stage, as grout lines can be more noticeable against intricate patterns and may require occasional re-sealing to keep them looking their best. Avoid abrasive cleaning products that could dull the surface finish over time.
