How do wood effect plank tiles compare to real decking outdoors?

Wood effect plank tiles replicate the warmth and natural charm of real timber without the significant upkeep that decking demands – real wood requires regular sanding, oiling, or staining to prevent rot, warping, and splintering. Porcelain wood effect tiles are impervious to moisture, will not rot or harbour splinters, and maintain their appearance for many years with minimal effort.

Are wood effect plank tiles slippery when wet?

Our outdoor wood effect plank tiles are designed with external use in mind and typically carry a textured surface finish that provides improved grip underfoot in wet conditions. Always check the specific tile’s slip-resistance rating before purchasing, especially if the area will be used by children or elderly family members.

Will the wood-look finish fade in direct sunlight?

Porcelain wood effect tiles are colourfast and UV-stable, meaning the printed grain and tone will not fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight the way that painted or stained real timber can. This makes them particularly well suited to south-facing gardens and terraces that receive strong sun throughout the day.

What direction should I lay wood effect plank tiles to get the best look?

For the most natural and visually appealing result, most installers lay wood effect plank tiles lengthways in the direction of the longest dimension of the space, much as you would lay real timber boards. Running them away from the main viewing point, such as a house door leading onto a patio, can also help to draw the eye outward and make the space feel larger.

Can wood effect plank tiles be used around a hot tub or garden shower area?

Yes, porcelain wood effect plank tiles are an ideal choice for wet outdoor zones such as around hot tubs, outdoor showers, or pool edges, as porcelain is completely non-porous and will not absorb water or develop mould the way real timber does. Just ensure the tiles you select have a suitable wet slip-resistance rating for these particularly high-moisture areas.
