Before laying any large format tile such as the Open 80x80cm, it is essential that your subfloor is flat, level, and structurally sound. Even minor undulations can cause hollow spots or cracking under large tiles once laid. A self-levelling compound is often used to achieve the required flatness, and your tiler should also ensure any timber subfloors are adequately stiffened to prevent flex, as movement in the substrate is one of the most common causes of tile failure.
