Each box of the Lavinia Silver Birch contains eight planks and covers 1.97 square metres, so for a 20 square metre room you would need just over 10.1 boxes as a minimum. We recommend purchasing 12 boxes to allow for waste from cuts at the edges and doorways, and to keep a couple of spare planks in case of any damage after installation. Because each box covers slightly less than the other HydroClick products in the range, it is especially important to calculate carefully and round up generously for larger open-plan spaces.

The matt finish on the Lavinia Silver Birch is a practical choice for busy areas like kitchens and hallways because it is far less likely to highlight surface scratches, footprints, or everyday scuffs compared to a high-gloss laminate. The grey and silver tone is also forgiving when it comes to dust and light debris between cleans, making it a low-maintenance option for households with children or pets. Regular sweeping and an occasional damp mop are all that is needed to keep the surface looking its best.

The Lavinia Silver Birch planks measure 1174x294mm and are classed as large-format, but unlike large ceramic tiles they do not require adhesive, grout, or specialist tools to install. The HydroClick click-fit system means the planks lock together as a floating floor, making it a much faster and more DIY-friendly process than tiling, which typically requires 24 hours or more of drying and curing time before the floor can be used. Ceramic tiles do offer a harder-wearing, fully waterproof surface, but the HydroClick laminate provides improved acoustics and a softer, warmer feel underfoot that many homeowners prefer in living rooms and bedrooms.
