Secure your tiles in place with some high quality tile adhesives.
Selecting which tile adhesive to choose is dependant upon the substrate and the tile.
Cement-Based Adhesives
Cement-based adhesives are the most common type used for tile installations. These adhesives are mixed with water or a latex additive to improve flexibility and adhesion.
Suitable For:
Ceramic Tiles:
Ideal for walls and floors, ceramic tiles bond well with cement-based adhesives.
Porcelain Tiles:
These tiles have low porosity, making cement-based adhesives with added latex modifiers a good choice.
Natural Stone Tiles:
Some natural stones, like marble and granite, can also be installed using specialised cement-based adhesives.
Ready-Mixed Adhesives
Ready-mixed adhesives are convenient and easy to use, as they come pre-mixed and ready to apply. However, they are typically used for specific applications.
Suitable For:
Wall Tiles:
Excellent for small ceramic or mosaic tiles on walls,
Small Tiles:
Suitable for tiles less than 12 inches in size, as larger tiles require stronger bonding capabilities.

The correct tile adhesive depends on two key factors: the type of tile you are laying and the substrate you are fixing it to. For example, heavy stone tiles on a timber floor require a flexible adhesive, while ceramic tiles on a dry plastered wall may only need a standard adhesive. Each product in our range includes guidance on compatible tiles and substrates to help you make the right choice.
Not always. Some adhesives in our range are dual-purpose and suitable for both walls and floors, but others are formulated specifically for one or the other. Floor adhesives typically need to withstand greater load and movement, so always check the product description before purchasing to ensure it is rated for your intended application.
Yes, large format tiles such as those over 600mm on any side generally require a high-performance or large format tile adhesive with a strong non-slip formula, particularly on walls where the tile weight is significant. Using an unsuitable adhesive with large tiles can cause slippage during installation or bonding failure over time, so it is important to select the correct product.
Many of our tile adhesives are suitable for use in wet and humid environments such as bathrooms, shower enclosures, and kitchens, but you should always check that the specific product is rated as waterproof or water-resistant. In fully wet areas like shower enclosures, we also recommend using a waterproof tanking system beneath the tiles in addition to an appropriate adhesive.
Using the wrong adhesive can lead to a range of problems including poor bonding, tile slippage, cracking, or premature failure of the tiled surface. This can result in costly remedial work, so it is always worth taking a moment to check compatibility before you buy. If you are unsure, our team at Stoke Tiles is happy to help you find the right product for your specific project.
