Why should I choose large wood plank tiles over real hardwood flooring?

Large wood plank tiles offer all the warmth and visual appeal of real hardwood without the drawbacks of swelling, warping, or requiring periodic sanding and refinishing. Because they are made from porcelain or ceramic, they are far more resistant to moisture, making them suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways where real wood would struggle. You also benefit from a long-lasting floor that won’t need replacing as frequently as natural timber.

How realistic do large format wood plank tiles actually look?

Modern digital printing technology means that today’s large wood plank tiles feature incredibly detailed woodgrain patterns, knots, and natural colour variation that closely mimic real timber. The larger format of the planks helps replicate the look of wide wooden boards, giving your room a premium, high-end feel. Many of our collections also include multiple face variations so that no two tiles look identical, avoiding any repetitive, artificial appearance.

Can large wood plank tiles be used in both indoor and outdoor spaces?

This depends on the specific collection you choose, as some ranges within our Large Wood Plank Tiles category are rated for external use and carry appropriate slip-resistance ratings, while others are designed for interior use only. We recommend checking the individual product details for each collection before purchasing, and our team at Stoke Tiles is happy to help you select the right tile for your intended space.

How do I maintain and clean large wood plank tiles?

One of the biggest advantages of wood effect plank tiles over real wood is how straightforward they are to maintain – there is no need for specialist wood cleaners, oils, or waxes. Simply sweep or vacuum regularly to remove loose debris, then mop with a mild, pH-neutral floor cleaner and warm water. Unlike real hardwood, these tiles won’t stain from spills if wiped promptly, making them an excellent practical choice for busy households.

What grout joint size should I use with large wood plank tiles to keep the wood effect looking authentic?

For the most realistic wood plank effect, we generally recommend using a narrow grout joint of around 2-3mm, as this minimises the visible grid pattern and allows the long plank format to read more naturally across the floor. Choosing a grout colour that closely matches the tile’s base tone will further enhance the seamless, timber-like appearance. Your tiler will be able to advise on the exact joint size based on the specific tiles you order.
