About large wall tiles
Large Wall Tiles
Large wall tiles are becoming increasing popular for many purposes. Their minimal grout lines and lower maintenance make them an ideal tile for bathrooms and kitchens; where over time grout lines can become stained or mildewed, if not regularly cleaned. For similar reasons, large floor tiles are also becoming extremely desirable. With this in mind, it is worth noting that our range of porcelain wall tiles are also suitable for floors. Perfect, for when you want to create a unified look by installing the same tile on both your walls and floors!
In terms of aesthetics, large wall tiles result in a sleek and seamless finish with a contemporary edge. The fewer grout lines can make a room feel more spacious and bigger. Installing them horizontally can create the illusion of a wider room and installing them vertically can make walls appear taller.
Our collection of large wall tiles showcases a variety of designs and styles. From a large square tile; Genova Black Matt Marble Effect 60x60cm to a large rectangular tile. In addition, there is also an array of colours to choose from and textured decor options available.
FAQs
Large wall tile questions
Large wall tiles create a sense of space and continuity by reducing the number of grout lines visible across a surface, making rooms feel bigger and more open. They are particularly effective in both residential bathrooms and kitchens and in commercial settings such as hotel lobbies and retail spaces, where a polished, high-end finish is desired.
Yes, many of the large wall tiles available at Stoke Tiles are suitable for wet areas, though you should always check the individual product specification to confirm the tile’s slip resistance rating and water absorption level. Using large format tiles in a shower enclosure can be especially effective, as fewer grout joints mean less grout to maintain and a cleaner overall appearance.
Measure the total surface area you plan to tile in square metres by multiplying the width by the height of each wall, then add the figures together. We recommend adding at least 10% to your total to allow for cuts, wastage, and any future repairs, which is especially important when working with large format tiles where a single mistake on a cut can waste a significant piece.
For large wall tiles, a grout joint of 3mm to 5mm is typically recommended, though rectified tiles with precisely cut edges can be laid with joints as narrow as 2mm for a near-seamless look. Always follow the tile manufacturer’s guidelines and consult a professional tiler if you are unsure, as the correct joint width can affect both the structural performance and the final aesthetic of the installation.
Many large wall tiles in our range are dual-purpose and can be used on floors as well, but it is essential to check the PEI rating and slip resistance of a tile before using it underfoot. Tiles rated solely for wall use may not be strong enough to withstand foot traffic, so always review the product details or contact our team at Stoke Tiles if you need guidance on suitability.
